Welcome to the official website of the University of Minnesota Ballroom Dance Club!
If you are new to ballroom dance then we especially want to welcome you! If you’re wondering about dancesport, check out our overview of the main dances we do.
At the University of Minnesota Ballroom Dance Club (which we often abbreviate as BDC), our mission is to create a fun atmosphere for the University and surrounding community. Our focus is on spreading the joy and knowledge of ballroom dance, as well as establishing an inclusive environment where dancers return year after year.
We are really lucky at BDC to be able to offer free professional ballroom lessons! Our club is open to anyone, not just students. No special clothing, previous experience, or partner is necessary. Lessons will be live using Zoom, and take place Friday evenings, 6:30-7:30p. Take a look at our This Week at Ballroom! page for more information, including Zoom meeting links. Recordings of past lessons can be found under the club menu, or at this YouTube link (Fall 2020) or this YouTube link (Spring 2021).
The University of Minnesota Ballroom Competition Team was founded in 2010. Since then we have been steadily growing and improving (currently ranked 1st in the nation!), and always looking to have fun while doing so. Auditions are held in the fall and spring of each school year, and are open to collegiate dancers of all backgrounds and skill levels. Each semester the team competes in one home competition (Blast in the fall and Dance Fest in the spring), and one away competition.
This fall there will be no audition required to join our competition team. Competition team members will hold one additional practice per week on Fridays. For more information, visit our This Week at Ballroom!.
